Johan Rockström is the Executive Director of the Stockholm Resilience Centre, a Professor in Natural Resource Management and a senior scientist at Stockholm University. An internationally recognized scientist on global sustainability issues, he led the recent scientific development of the new Planetary Boundaries framework – a groundbreaking way to look at the sustainability issues at hand and at the heart of The Human Quest. He is a leading scientist on global water resources, and strategies to build resilience in water scarce regions of the world. He serves on several scientific committees and boards, e.g., as the vice-chair of the science advisory board of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact research (PIK), and he chairs the visioning process on global environmental change of the International Council for Science (ICSU). Johan has published several books and articles.
Mattias Klum has worked full-time as a freelance photographer since 1986. In an artistic way that is entirely his own, he has described and portrayed animals, plants, and natural and cultural settings in the form of articles, books, films and exhibitions. Since 1997, he has published numerous articles and cover images for National Geographic magazine, and his work has appeared in many world leading international publications. Mattias is a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, a member of the Board of Trustees at WWF Sweden, an IUCN Goodwill Ambassador, a Senior Fellow at Stockholm Resilience Centre, and a Fellow at National Geographic Society and the Linnean Society of London. Mattias has published 10 books to date.
