And again the ALMA prize goes to a rather unknown author outside the Dutch and German speaking world. Probably it won’t be long til we will be able to find most of his titles in English – and Swedish.
The jury emphazises in their motivation on his vide range of important subjects, often concerning difficult aspects of life and society that some children unfortunatly encounters too early in life. Mentioned themes are drugs, illness, death and philosophical subjects such as religion and language. Even though the subjects may be serious, there are always warmth and humour. In every case Kuijer defends the child and treats the reasoning and the thoughts of children with seriousity and respect. Often with a great doze of fantasy mixed with the reality.
Congratulation Guus Kuijer, it’s a very noble prize!
